If you'd like to get out on the water, there are a few options:
- Ferry rides across the Hooghly River cost only a few rupees and are one of the cheapest ways to experience the river.
- Private boat rides are also available and typically cost around ₹200–₹300, depending on the length of the ride and your negotiating skills.
Foreigner-Friendly?
Yes. Since this is a public attraction with free entry, visiting is very straightforward for foreign travelers. We had no issues exploring the area and enjoying the riverside views.
Overall Impression
This is one of Kolkata's most scenic spots and is especially beautiful around sunset. The combination of the historic monument, riverfront setting, and city views makes it an excellent place for photography, relaxation, or simply taking a break from sightseeing. If you're looking for some of the best views of the Hooghly River, this is a must-visit location.
Travel Tips
Try to visit in the late afternoon and stay through sunset. The changing colors over the river create fantastic photo opportunities, and the cooler temperatures make for a more enjoyable walk along the waterfront.
