Alipore Zoo - Kolkata

Initial Thoughts 

What a amazing zoo nestled in South Kolkata. We were greeted instantly by some howling monkeys right at the entrance, and throughout the whole adventure around every turn there were different animals to see. From Tigers, Elephants and Peacocks there is something at this Zoo for everyone to ooohh and awwwh over. 

Family Friendly? 

YES YES YES. This is a great Zoo for the family. We have visited a few other really good Zoo's in India and this one by far is the most family friendly. Very easy to find and navigate, also the inside of the Zoo is perfect for a stroller if you are considering bringing one. 

Money & Costs 

We booked tickets online at the link below and the price per entrance was 50 INR per adult and 20 INR for people under 5 years old. So this is a very affordable option considering the amount of entertainment that is in the zoo.

Foreigner Friendly? 

Yes, for the most part this Zoo is very foreigner friendly. Many people from outside of the big cities also love to come to the zoo as well. So if you are foreigner with white skin you might just prepare yourself to either say no to some pictures or be ready to take a lot of photos haha! However the people are very kind, this is just a personal decision that you will need to make. :) 

Overall Thoughts 

This is a great zoo at a very affordable price. We would highly recommend you to check out this Zoo even if you do not have small children. This will probably take at least
half a day to get through all of the exhibits. 

Travel Tips 

One expert travel tip that we have for this place is for when you are ready to get picked up after your day at the Zoo. When you are leaving the Zoo take a right and go over to the overpass walkway. There you will take a left and follow the path to the other side of the street. That is where the Uber will be able to pick you up at, as they are not allowed to pick up right in the front of the Zoo.
